Fr. Florante s. Camacho, SVD
Member

USC Cabinet member Fr. Florante Camacho, SVD, loves monkey business. He is, after all, the President of the Philippine Tarsier Foundation, Inc. (PAFI), an organization that seeks to preserve the endangered tarsiers of Bohol.

His environmental advocacy shows how deep is Fr. Florante’s commitment to science, a good example of the Carolinian putting the University motto of Scientia, Virtus, Devotio in actual practice.

This is not the first time that Fr. Florante has joined the Board of Trustees. He was also a member of the Board back in June 2004 to May 2007, June 1971 to May 1979, and from June 1997 to May 1995(?). He was also the President of the Holy Name University in Tagbilaran City, Bohol, from 1993 to 2005; of the Divine Word University in Tacloban City from 1987 to 1993; and of the University of San Carlos from 1982 to 1987. He also served as Vice Provincial Superior of the SVD Southern Province for three years and as Provincial Superior of SVD-Manila Province for eight years. He was also a Rector/Teacher at the Divine Word Seminary in Tagaytay City for a year and a Teacher/High School Director-Principal/President at the Divine Word College in Legazpi City for six years.

His academic background includes an A.B. major in Philosophy at Divine Word Seminary, Tagaytay City; a Licentiate in Sacred Theology major in Theology at the Gregorian Pontifical University, Rome, Italy; an M.A. major in Philosophy and minor in Social Science at Divine Word Seminary, Tagaytay City; and a Ph.D. in Organizational Development at the Southeast Asia Interdisciplinary Development Institute (SAIDI) in Antipolo, Rizal.

A man of that caliber is a rare species himself.
