Dr. Ernesto M. Pernia

Involved with development economics, urban and regional economics and macroeconomics, population and human resource economics, Dr. Ernesto M. Pernia is a Member of the USC Board of Trustees from August 2005 to May 2008. He has served as Managing Editor of the Asian Development Review for four years and serves various editorial boards including Review of Urban and Regional Development Studies and The Philippine Review of Economics. For more than fifteen years, Dr. Pernia held positions in the Asian Development Bank (ADB) including Lead Economist of the Economics and Research Department (ERD), Principal Economist, and Senior Economist. He was the Regional Adviser for Asia and the Pacific on Population and Employment Policy and Research of the International Labor Organization. Dr. Pernia is a Professor of Economics at the University of the Philippines School of Economics Diliman, Quezon City. He was a Research Fellow at the East-West Resource Systems Institute, East-West Center, Honolulu, Hawaii; Chairman of the Department of Economics at the University of the Philippines; Lecturer at the University of California, Sta. Cruz; and Instructor at the University of San Carlos. He obtained a Ph.D. from the University of California in Berkeley and an M.A. in Economics from the University of Bridgeport, Connecticut. He is an alumnus of USC, finishing his A.B. major in Economics after graduating magna cum laude with his A.B. major in Philosophy from San Carlos Major Seminary.
