A lean unit in USC, the WDO consists of a staff of six professionals supported by 12 (our “Dirty Dozen”) volunteer student developers who are invaluable to office operations.
Web Consultant and Project Manager
A short stint in radical feminism couldn’t weaken a Bible-based family loyalty for this charming lady who can be both unyielding about deadlines and indulging to younger members of the team who looks to her as cool mom. Her cookies, which she cooks at her bakeshop back home, work like chicken soup for their souls. Our project leader relaxes at her desk listening to 80s rock and opera on internet radio. But Faith keeps tabs on everything from e-commerce to health food to the latest in Oprah’s book club. If you can’t handle a five-minute conversation with this fast-talker, try disarming her with double dutch ice cream topped with strawberry syrup!
Flash Developer and Web Designer
Jame Paul “Gogoy” Silmaro is an engineer, a blues band vocalist and guitarist, a former law student, and now a multimedia artist all rolled into one. Armed with a wild sense of humor and a great sense of responsibility, this guy can fix a computer glitch as quickly as he can get a fix munching old Jolly biscuits with coffee. Gogoy is also addicted to Hangaroo, Command and Conquer, and loves cracking verbal puns and witticisms. He loves singing so much that he even sings the instrumentals of his favorite songs!
Head Web Developer
Christian “Madz” a.k.a. “Chris”, “Ian”, “Toto” is happily married to Susana, the love of his life. His pastime includes gardening, reading, and playing with children. Living up to his name, this man would easily pass for a living saint. He said he tries to do everything to enter the gates of heaven, but as a mere mortal, he still commits mistakes. You could presume he would utter “Alleluia” after a successful presentation, or “please, Lord” when deadlines have to be met. There are only a few good men and Chris is one of them.
Web Content Writer
“Cream”, as she is fondly called, has a penchant for the number seven. The seventh day of the month is special to her because she was born on the seventh and, oh never mind, sometimes, it’s best when less is said.
Web Content Editor
Despite being always surrounded by computers since he first worked in an ad agency in his second year as a Fine Arts Advertising major, Radel remains incorrigibly low tech. Makes him wonder how he came to be part of this cyber crew.
Flash Developer and Photographer
This skilled flash developer is a semi-good looking guy with an average height, tan complexion, and features that give him a semblance to the typical Jamaican Nights party animal. Relaxation for Gino means eating siomai or pasta, sleeping, and doing nothing. He likes sports, gadgets, movies, and practically all types of music.
Web Developer for: News and Announcements and Web Mail System
Not the Sigbin on Big Brother’s watch but our “Bodoy” (note the difference in spelling) may well be a much stranger species. To begin with, he does nothing but eat and do computer programming each day. The only parts of his body that seem to work are his fingers and brain. And the only language he truly understands is a series of zeroes and ones.
Web Developer for: Alumni Jobseeker and WebMail System
Those who use the web mail should thank Ceasar, the one who created this feature. “Ian Spears” as his friends call him has the looks, the smile, and the style. This guy could be really serious when the situation calls for it, but most of the time, he’s just so carefree and laid back. A down-to-earth guy, he is actually independent minded who respects other people’s opinion. Always doing a good turn each day, this last Boy Scout is crazy for basketball and the boob tube.
Web Developer for: Web Site Graphic User Interface and Content Management System
Among those working for the Content Management System is Janus, a simple and funny guy who loves watching the NBA, playing computer games, and reading books. Being the eldest in the family, he promised himself to do well in his studies so that he will be able to help his family live a comfortable life someday. A natural do-gooder, he greatly admires his parents’ hard work and resilience and aspires to emulate them.
Graphic Designer and Photographer
Another flash developer, this cute and smart mestizo loves playing basketball and working out in a gym. But don’t get him wrong. “Chriz”, as he is also called, doesn’t really go for the no-brainer stuff. He also loves to read and study and is always keen on the latest buzz in the high tech world.
Web Developer for: Faculty and Staff Search Functionality and Content Management System
“Cubee” is in charge with the faculty and staff section and the Content Management System of this website. A man of few words, he is actually a blend of complexity and simplicity. Despite his being an introvert, he has a fetish for playing physical games. He dreams to be a pilot one day so he can travel around the world for free.
Web Developer for: Quick Search Facility and Research Database
Responsible for doing this website’s quick search feature, “Towering Chard” is passionate about two things: getting a good snooze or a wild jolt playing computer games. He is a programmer in C, C++, C#, Java and Assembly; knows MySQL and MSSQL databases; and correspondingly made a database application program using Java applets for Asian Academy of Music, Inc. If those sound gibberish to us, computer dummies, they’re certainly no greek to this geek who thinks a life without computers is not worth living.
Web Developer for: Alumni Registration and Database
Shoot, serve, smash, and drive. This guy loves basketball, table tennis, and bowling. An animé buff, he can relate the lives of every Japanese cartoon character you can think of. When not doing the alumni database and registration for this website (a feat way beyond student level), the ex-Lexmark intern could be playing computer games, lifting weights in a gym, or impersonating his professors. Endowed with a good sense of humor, the “bodybuilder” loves to be with friends, meet new ones, or travel to places outside Cebu.
Quality Assurance and Technical Documentation Specialist
“Itok” or “Jay-R”, as he is fondly called, comes from the great mountains of Madja-as near Boracay. He loves the thrill of outdoor adventures but when stuck indoors, he indulges in a movie marathon, or read books on geography and ancient history. The only Industrial Engineering student in the web team, Itok dreams to be a lawyer someday (Now, that’s another Gogoy in the making). He is part of the documentation team and is responsible for creating the web user manual and for the QA of the site.
Web Developer for: Alumni Company Registration and Content Management System Personnel Verifier
When Toyland invented jack-in-the-box, it must have also created “Khris”. Vibrant and funny, his energy and positive attitude is very contagious. Only a few is truly able to blend with the rhythm of life and this guy is one of them. Also assigned to the Alumni section, he enjoys playing contact sports, watching cable, reading magazines, and surfing the Net. His goals in life are to get a good job and build a nice family.
Web Developer for: Alumni Graphic User Interface and Alumni Back-End Functionalities
“Kishimii” or “Aiz” (pronounced as ice) is the only female student web developer in the team. A nocturnal person, Kishimii is assigned to the alumni page, which she constructed with feminine eye for detail and neatness. This quiet girl actually loves the adrenalin rush, like driving, bowling, billiards, Warcraft, Counterstrike, and Dota.
Web Developer for: Back-End Architectural Design, Web Site Graphic User Interface and Content Management System
His middle name is Pacquiao but no, “Chan-chan” isn’t interested in boxing matches as much as he is with doing things out-of-the box. The younger Christian (his namesake in the team happens to be his teacher) is already into things way beyond his Computer Engineering course. Aside from being responsible for this site’s front end he also does occasional digital photography, drawing, and wall climbing. Having worked before at Lexmark as intern, Chan-chan is the type who is never satisfied until the job is done. For him, business means business. But the guy really loves everything about life, including the things that make it miserable. Pessimistic as he may sound, he lives a moderate life and says no to drugs.
