STATEMENT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF SAN CARLOS
COLLEGE OF LAW, USC LAW ALUMNI ASSOCIATION INC. AND USC LEX CIRCLE EXPRESSING THEIR DEEP SORROW ON THE DEATH OF FORMER PRESIDENT CORAZON C. AQUINO

Cory AquinoAt the dawn of August 1, 2009, the Almighty God mercifully ended the life of one of the greatest Filipino leaders, Corazon C. Aquino.

In life, Corazon Aquino was an epitome of moral courage, sincerity, and unquestioned integrity, always placing the national interest over and above private ambition. She never used public office for private gain. Never addicted to power, she refused to run in the 1992 presidential elections despite the absence of any constitutional prohibition.

The Filipino people owe her an unpayable debt when she led the 1986 People Revolution to topple down a corrupt and dictatorial regime. Such non-violent action that brought down a dictator became a source of inspiration to all oppressed peoples in the world who yearn for dignity and freedom.

Even in her retirement, Cory Aquino continued her crusade for good government and the rule of Law, and she never wavered in her fight against corruption and against any attempt to subvert the Constitution for selfish ends.

Cory Aquino will always be an inspiration to every Filipino who aspire for justice, freedom, and peace. The Filipino people, therefore, are greatly diminished with the passing of a great leader.

The University of San Carlos College of Law, the USC Law Alumni Association Inc. and the USC Lex Circle join the whole nation in mourning the death of the late President Corazon C. Aquino even as they renew their commitment to uphold Cory’s democratic ideals.
