The University of San Carlos team composed of three fifth-year Accountancy students namely Lyle Adonis A. Alegado, Diether Dan L. Cala, and Kirk M. Saromines coached by Artche Lleve, CPA bagged third place among 20 participating schools in the prestigious 20th Intercollegiate Finance Competition (ICFC) final round held last November 23, 2018 at the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas.

This is the first time that USC joined the top three of the ICFC after placing 4th consistently in the previous years.

Almost a hundred schools participated in the elimination rounds held at selected hubs all over the country. USC took the top spot in the Cebu hub with 260 points and was ranked in 5th place nationwide after the elimination round.

The final round comprised of fifty difficult level questions patterned after the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) and Certified Management Accountant (CMA) examinations. At the end of the fifty questions, USC and De la Salle University had to be separated by a tie-breaking question for third place. Both rounds were automated using the technology of Project Noah.

The ICFC is the brainchild of the Financial Executives Institute of the Philippines (FINEX) through its Junior FINEX Committee in partnership with J.P. Morgan Chase & Co. This year had the widest participation of schools from different regions in the country during the final round and signals a bright future for finance students in the Philippines.
