Dr. Hope Sabanpan-Yu Receives The Lourdes Lontok-Cruz Award for Excellence in Research

Dr. Hope Sabanpan-Yu of the USC Department of Languages and Literature receives the prestigious 4th Lourdes Lontok-Cruz Award for Best Thesis in Women and Gender Studies for her groundbreaking dissertation Women’s Common Destiny”: Maternal Representations in the Cebuano Serialized Fiction of Hilda Montaire and Austregelina Espina-Moore (2006). In 2007, it was awarded the Best Dissertation by the University of the Philippines among equally interesting entries from the different colleges. UP Press published the book in 2009.


The Lourdes Lontok-Cruz Awards (LLC Awards) was created to honor UP graduate students who have enriched the growth of gender and women’s studies through outstanding research in the various academic fields. Awarding will be at the Auditorium of the College of Mass Communications at UP Diliman on April 30, 2010 at two o’clock in the afternoon. Since Dr. Yu is presenting a paper at the 3rd International Conference on Philosophy organized by the Athens Institute for Education and Research, her editor, Ms. Roshan T. Jose, is accepting the award on her behalf.
