Jose Eleazar R. Bersales, chair of the Department of Sociology and Anthropology was unanimously voted National President of Ugnayang Pang-Aghamtao, Inc. (UGAT), the country's only professional society of anthrpologists.
Bersales, former UGAT vice-president for the Visayas, accepted the consensus decision of fellow members of the 15-person UGAT Board of Directors in a meeting held at the end of the 28th UGAT Annual National Anthropological Conference held at Silliman University in Dumaguete City.
Bersales heads the leadership of UGAT following the successful three-year presidency of Dr. Eufracio Abaya of U.P. PSSC is the main body that regulates and supports all professional associations in the social sciences in the country today.
