FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
The following are questions frequently asked by students when they get to avail the services of the center.

What is Guidance?
Guidance is the process of helping individuals to understand themselves and their world. It specifically gives assistance to “normal” students – those who need help with the events and concerns that occur during normal development. It provides experiences that facilitate the development of persons who are passionate with themselves – accept, enjoy, understand and disclose the self; productive – efficient fully functioning, vocationally adjusted, intelligent, creative, socially poised and attractive, and truly effective, compassionate towards others – altruistic, loving, caring, sensitive, genuinely helpful and effective facilitators of growth.

What is Counseling?
Counseling is the heart of guidance services. It provides skilled assistance to students who need to work out solutions to personal concerns/problems.  The ethics of confidentiality in counseling provide an atmosphere of openness in the sharing of issues. It includes individual and group sessions, walk-in or referred individuals, case conferences and referrals.

What is the work of a Guidance Counselor?
The Guidance Counselor plays five major roles (Villar, 2007).
He or she works as a Counselor. He or she aims to help students overcome obstacles to their personal and education/professional growth and move toward the maximum development.
The Guidance Counselor is a Coordinator. He or she acts as a liaison between the student and the resource person or agency with the purpose of collecting and disseminating information and providing the necessary services.
As a Consultant, he or she can act as an objective party looking at a situation and suggesting other helpful interventions and assist others to assess problems, find alternatives for dealing with them, and develop skills for effective work.
Guidance Counselor is a Conductor of Activities. He or she plans and conducts certain activities that may promote the client’s positive movement in life. Such activities may focus on orientation, stress management program, time management program, leadership and teambuilding seminar, etc.
As a Change Agent, the counselor can be involved in the process of organizational change. His or her roles may involve acting as a catalyzer, process helper, solution giver, resource linker, and stabilizer.  

What is PF?
PF is an acronym for Peer Facilitators. These are students who volunteer their services in assisting their peers in developing themselves fully by acting as implementing partners of the guidance staff.

What are the services of the center?
The services which the students can avail are counseling service, referral service, appraisal and testing service, information service and follow-up service.

Can we do counseling about love?
Yes, of course. Any topic which of concern by a student that includes topic on love can be brought up in counseling. Then the counselor and the student will work out together to come up with a resolution.

Can we talk to a counselor any topic we like to share?
Yes, as long as you and the counselor are available. You can set an appointment with your counselor ahead of time inorder to have an ample time for sharing.

Is the center only for the people with problems?
The center is open to all students whether you have problems or not.

Can we stay in the office during our vacant time?
Students can stay in the office if they have no classes. Students can play board games, read newspapers and magazines, chat with friends or with the counselors, study and review for classes.
