usc_badmintonCebu City - at 9:00 in the morning of November 24, 2007, the 17th Cebu City Olympics Badminton event for Universities and Colleges category formally took place at Abellana Sports Complex. This was participated by several Universities and Colleges in Cebu. Vellez, CTS, CCST, UP, UC, CNU and USC were the entries for the said event. University of San Carlos CAS badminton players have garnered a great victory in the 17thCebu City Olympic Games together with Fr. Jerome Cayetano S.V.D who served as their coach. USC badminton women played by Avie Marie Branzuela, Sarah Virtudazo, Zenith Noel and AlYXiesQuijote ranked 3rd place against the UC badminton women who ranked 2ndplace. CNU badminton women gained its heart-stirring victory hailed as champions. On the other hand, USC badminton men played by Paul Nifio Palacio, Dante James Colipano, Darryl Rey Funelas and Pichai Onchan contended against UCbattling for championship game. After a tight match that led to an impulse-breaking and stamina-rising decision set, the opposed team won the first singles. "I ran out of air and became careless," said Paul Palacio, the first singles player of USC badminton men. Fortunately, USC badminton men doubles were able to tied-up the game. Later, USC's unbeatable Pichai Onchan proved his might and gave us a good match against the UC's ace player for the second singles. After winning the 1stset, with a lot of tension in the air, USC eventually won the game and made University of San Carlos proud by landing as a champion in Badminton men's category. (by Zenith Noel)
