Cinema students win big at Cinepanalo Film Festival

The USC Fine Arts Department Cinema Program is beaming with pride as its students took home three awards for the short film “Tiil ni Lola” (Grandma’s feet) at the recent Puregold Cinepanalo Film Festival held on March 16, 2024, at the Gateway Cineplex, Quezon City.

First-year Cinema student Reutsche Colle Lima directed the short film which captivated audiences due to its heartfelt narrative and impressive technical execution, garnering a total of 12 nominations. 

The success of “Tiil ni Lola” highlights the dedication and hard work of the students involved in its production. From the stellar editing by Nyle Bacolod, Reutsche Lima, and Elj Tababa to the soul-stirring original song “Balik,” composed by Ethan Gipanao and his band Espresso, the film exemplifies the creative synergy fostered within the Department of Fine Arts. 

Additionally, Lima also received an award for responsible filmmaking. Her nomination for Best Director also further highlighted the caliber of talent fostered within USC’s Cinema program. On top of these awards, she was also awarded a Mowelfund Filmmaking Scholarship.

The nominations extending to categories such as cinematography, production design, original score, sound design, and poster design demonstrate the Cinema program’s commitment to nurturing diverse voices and fostering a culture of innovation in filmmaking.

“Tiil ni Lola” has extended its screening until March 26, 2024 at the Gateway Cineplex.
