USC hosts ASEAN QA meeting

Quality assurance (QA) officers from ASEAN countries held a meeting at the University of San Carlos last July 31 to August 2, 2019 facilitated by Frank Niedermeier, ASEAN-QA Project Head of the University of Potsdam, Germany, and Duu Cheng Ong, ASEAN-QA regional mentor from Multimedia University, Malaysia.

These QA officers serve as the core group for establishing a regional network for QA officers that will serve as a platform for sharing expertise and resources for enhancing quality in ASEAN higher education institutions. The meeting is the third of a series where the core group discusses progress of the initial activities funded under the ASEAN-QA Project.

Among the items discussed were the organizational preparations for the ASEAN-QA Forum to be held on November 6-8, 2019 in Hanoi, Vietnam. The officers also shared insights on QA for teaching and learning with some of the academic heads of the University. The USC Administration, in turn, hosted a fellowship night for the guests along with the QMS team for student support and services.

The ASEAN-QA Project aims at promoting regional quality assurance in the region. It is coordinated by the University of Potsdam Center for Quality Development within the framework of the Dialogue on Innovative Higher Education Strategies project, which is jointly coordinated by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the German Rectors’ Conference.

Partnering in the ASEAN-QA Project are the ASEAN University Network, the SEAMEO Regional Center for Higher Education and Development in Southeast Asia, the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education, and the ASEAN Quality Assurance Network.
