USC Interior Design student wins awards in Singapore

Basil Rico Gahi, received two awards in different categories during the Design Excellence Awards 2022 (DEA) organized by the Interior Design Confederation Singapore (IDCS) on December 1, 2022, at the Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore.

Gahi’s work, “Kaharuhay Highlands Mountain Resort” garnered the Silver Award under the Best Hospitality Design, while another piece, “Pabukid Restaurant,” took home the Bronze Award for the Best Food and Beverage Design category. 

The Spatial Design Awards (SPADE) give distinctions to design institutions and students whose works demonstrate strong design thinking and new, exciting spatial design concepts. Meanwhile, the IDCS’ Design Excellence Awards (DEA) honors the interior design industry and its institutional landscapes with the highest accolades in the region. 

Overall, this year’s competition received 84 entries in nine student categories.

“The SPADE award winners today are our young emerging designers that will become our industry leaders of tomorrow and IDCS wishes them all the best for their bright and exciting future careers in Interior Design,” Cameron Woo, president of IDCS shared.
