USC mourns death of Cebu City Mayor Labella

The University of San Carlos community mourns the passing of Cebu City Mayor Edgardo “Edgar” Labella on Friday, November 19, 2021 at the age of 70.

Prior to his first successful mayoral bid, Labella served as the city’s vice mayor for two terms. He served in the government for a total of 30 years. He was an alumnus of the USC School of Law, Class of 1977.

Last year, before the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted classes and our way of life due to numerous lockdowns, USC received the Cebu City Mayor’s Special Award during its Charter Day celebration on February 24, 2020. Mayor Labella recognized the University’s consistent performance in the national licensure and bar examinations and for “producing exemplary graduates that contribute to the betterment of the Cebuano community.”

The entire Carolinian community extends its heartfelt gratitude to Mayor Labella for his public service and expresses sincerest condolences to his family and constituents.

A public viewing at the Cebu City hall is being planned. Details will be announced through media outlets.
