USC SEd grad students join DOST SEI Scholars Leadership Boot Camp

Four graduate students from the University of San Carlos School of Education (SEd) attended the 7th and final leg of the Leadership Boot Camp held at Taal Vista Hotel in Tagaytay City on November 23–27, 2022.

The event, which was part of the Department of Science and Technology Science Education Institute’s (DOST SEI) Patriot Scholar Project, was attended by a total of 100 participating student-scholars from different member-universities of the Capacity Building Program in Science and Mathematics Education (CBPSME) scholarship program. The boot camp hopes to develop educators’ leadership and management skills toward the holistic development of the Filipinos.

Scholar-participants from USC include Romel Pachejo (M.A. Science Education major in Physics) and Ph.D. Science Education major in Physics students Cara Luz Buar, Judy Mae Castillo, and Katrina Jhoanne Santos. They were accompanied by Dr. Rolando Obiedo, Graduate Programs Coordinator of the USC School of Education.

Notable guest speakers include the DOST SEI Director Dr. Josette Biyo and DOST SEI Deputy Director Engr. Albert Mariño, who delivered their messages of welcome and inspiration.This was followed by the different plenary sessions of Cezar R. Pedraza, Director of the Department of Science and Technology Planning and Evaluation Service (PES), who talked about developing project management skills; Engr. Bernie Cangrejo, Professor of Central Philippine University, who highlighted the core values of a patriot Filipino scholar; Prof. Michael Charleston B. Chua, Assistant Professor of De La Salle University, who spoke about the relationship between human rights and science and technology; Dr. Jayeel S. Cornelio, Associate Professor of Ateneo de Manila University, who emphasized the role of science and math education in democracy and citizenship; and Rosejelynn Bulante, an instructor analyst in Accenture, who provided talks and engaging activities on leadership and management.
