USC sweeps nationwide search for outstanding accounting students

The University of San Carlos emerged victorious in the 23rd Search for Outstanding Accounting Students of the Philippines (SOASP) on May 28, 2022.

All five finalists are USC students, including Kyra Shane Buhia who was eventually named as Champion. As the overall winner, Buhia will receive a plaque of recognition and P50,000.

Buhia (top right frame) could not hide her delight as she was announced as the overall champion. Her compatriots took 2nd to 5th places in the 23rd SOASP.

Aside from Buhia, Jenzel John Logno, Rica Mae Albiso, Leonelle Lambo, and Filna Quino, took second, third, fourth, and fifth places, respectively.

Prior to the final determination of winners, 25 accounting students from different universities in the Philippines were announced last April. The qualifiers then competed in an online Quiz Bee Competition where the five USC accounting students made the cut and went straight to the Finals Proper.

After the quiz bee, the finalists underwent interviews with the panel of judges where Buhia was eventually named as the overall champion.

The 23rd SOASP was organized by the P&A Grant Thornton Foundation, the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA), and the Association of Certified Public Accountants in Commerce and Industry (ACPACI).
